What is Project in a box?
PIB is an outreach program organized by the Biomedical Engineering Society at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The goal of Project in a Box is to encourage STEM interest in middle and high school students in the Knoxville area by introducing them to biomedical engineering and the steps of the engineering design process through a hands-on project.

Each school visit consists of a presentation on biomedical engineering as well as various career opportunities in the field. given by biomedical engineering students at UT followed by a project. Each project includes elements of engineering design with an application to the medical field to allow students to understand the critical thinking skills that engineers use in their careers every day.

Webb school of KnoxvilleAt WEBB School of Knoxville, BMES interacted with seventh graders by leading a hands on project. Members presented on biomedical engineering and prosthetics in order to help them understand their crafts of a simple prosthetic hand.

Powell high schoolAt Powell High School, BMES lead activities and discussion in anatomy classes. Members introduced the realm of biomaterials and majors in engineering. Students were able to ask any questions they had on college life and degrees.
